Understanding Anxiety in Everyday Life
Anxiety isn't always loud — sometimes it's a racing mind at 2am or a knot that won't leave your chest. Here's how to recognise it early.
Anxiety is not a character flaw. It is a body trying to keep you safe, often long after the danger has passed.
In Bangladesh, many people still describe it as “thinking too much,” a restless stomach, or a heart that races for no clear reason. Naming it clearly is the first kindness we can offer ourselves.
What it can feel like
- A mind that will not switch off at night
- Tightness in the chest, jaw, or stomach
- Irritability that surprises the people you love
- Avoiding places, calls, or decisions because they feel too much
None of these signs mean you are broken. They mean your nervous system is working overtime.
Small ways to begin
Start with what is already in reach. A slower breath. A walk that does not need a destination. A trusted person who can hear you without rushing to fix you.
If anxiety has been sitting with you for weeks, or if it is getting in the way of sleep, work, or care for your family, it is worth asking for support. Monobikash Foundation’s programmes exist so that conversation does not have to wait for a crisis.
You do not have to wait until you are “bad enough.” Early attention is still care.
